🎄 The Christmas Tree That Ate Christmas! An Original NAMCO3D Christmas Creation Design, Slice, and Print When Christmas Takes a Horrifying Turn! Christmas is typically associated with happiness, beautifully decorated trees, gifts, and festive celebrations. But this year, I wanted to create something a bit different. What if the Christmas tree wasn’t interested in having gifts placed underneath it? What if it wanted to eat them instead? That simple, rather ridiculous thought became the inspiration behind The Christmas Tree That Ate Christmas Day My latest original character design for NAMCO3D. I wanted to mix the traditional look of a Christmas tree with something playful, monstrous, and a little scary, while still keeping that unmistakable festive feel. The result is a Christmas tree with a serious appetite! 🎁 A Christmas Tree With a Personality At first glance, you might think this is just another decorated Christmas tree, covered in snow, colorful ornaments, and topped with a beautiful star. Look a little closer, however, and you'll discover something rather unusual. Hidden beneath those snow-covered branches is a monstrous face, complete with enormous angry eyes, a gigantic mouth filled with sharp teeth and two enormous clawed hands ready to grab anything within reach. And what exactly is inside its mouth? Christmas gifts, of course! It seems this particular tree has decided that Christmas dinner should consist of everything that was supposed to be underneath it. Even the poor little gingerbread man standing at the front looks like he might be next on the menu! 🎨 Bringing the Character to Life One of my main objectives was to create a design that could be presented using a limited selection of PLA filament colors without losing its personality. For this version, I chose four main colors: Snow White: The snow-covered branches, frosty details and body. Christmas Green: The claws, branch outlines, facial details, and base. Festive Orange: Stars, ornaments, eyes, gifts, and gingerbread decorations. Black: The inside of the mouth, tooth highlights, and darker facial features. The contrasting colors help highlight the character’s unusual appearance while giving the finished model a distinctive festive look. I particularly like how the white branches contrast against the green claws and the bright orange decorations. The model is designed to mimic a physical PLA print, preserving the subtle layer textures characteristic of FDM printing. 🛠️ Designing With 3D Printing in Mind Creating a character like this presents several challenges. The biggest challenge is finding the right balance between visual detail and practical 3D printing. I wanted the monster to have an expressive face, detailed branches, individual decorations and intimidating claws, but without losing the overall structure of a traditional Christmas tree. The wide circular base provides a foundation for the design, while the layered branches create the familiar Christmas tree shape. The ornaments, decorations, and gingerbread figures add extra personality to the finished piece. Due to the extended claws, overhanging branches, and open mouth, special attention must be paid to the placement of supports during slicing. I recommend examining the model carefully in your slicer, especially around the hands, teeth, and underside of the branches. 🎄 A Different Kind of Christmas Decoration This isn’t meant to be your ordinary Christmas ornament. It’s for people who like unusual decorations, fantasy creatures, quirky characters, and designs that mix humor with a slightly darker sense of imagination. I wanted to create something that would make people stop, look twice and hopefully smile. After all, Christmas doesn’t always have to be traditional! Sometimes the most memorable decorations are the ones that do something completely unexpected. ❤️ The NAMCO3D Creative Journey One of the things I enjoy most about 3D design is taking a simple idea and turning it into something that has its own character and personality. With each new project, I strive to experiment with various themes, shapes, and aesthetics. The Christmas Tree That Ate Christmas Day is another example of that approach. It blends festive joy, monster-themed fantasy, and a touch of dark humor into one unique Christmas creation. And who knows? Perhaps next Christmas, the gifts won’t be the only things disappearing underneath the tree!
