OrcaSlicer Complete Guide
OrcaSlicer has become the gold standard open-source slicer for makers. Here is how to configure, calibrate, and slice like a pro.
1. Installation & Printer Setup
Download the latest OrcaSlicer release for Windows, macOS, or Linux. Use the setup wizard to select your printer model (Creality, Bambu Lab, Prusa, Voron, Anycubic) and configure your direct network connection (Klipper/Moonraker, OctoPrint, or Bambu Cloud).
2. Filament & Process Profiles
OrcaSlicer features built-in profiles for PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU, and PC. Always create user presets based on verified manufacturer values. Pay attention to nozzle temperature, bed temperature, and max volumetric speed (flow limit).
3. Advanced Features: Scarf Joint & Seams
One of OrcaSlicer's killer features is 'Scarf Joint Seam', which ramps extrusion at layer start and end to eliminate the visible Z-seam. Enable it under Quality > Seam > Scarf Joint for near-invisible seam lines on cylindrical prints.
4. Tree Supports vs Standard Supports
Use 'Tree (organic)' supports for miniatures, organic shapes, and complex overhangs. Tree supports use significantly less filament, print faster, and detach cleanly without scarring the model surface.
5. Infill Patterns & Strength Optimization
Prefer 'Gyroid' or 'Cross Hatch' infill over traditional grid infill. Grid infill crosses over itself on the same layer, causing nozzle dragging and high-speed knocking. Gyroid provides isotropic strength with zero line intersections.
