Model Overview & Print Notes
Summary Dtdm (C8H16N2O2S2, CAS 103-34-4) — a free educational 3D molecular model for teachers and students, by MolGod.org. Each atom is labelled with its own engraved element symbol: no colour chart needed. Most printable molecule files rely on colour coding, yet the STL format carries no colour and a single-filament print loses it entirely. MolGod adds what the STL format leaves out by engraving the element symbol into each atom of the printed structure. Our goal is to let students understand on their own how the atoms are arranged, how they are bonded and what the 3D geometry looks like, straight from the model in their hands. Teachers skip the modelling and labelling work entirely: download the file, set the scale in the slicer and print. The research behind the idea, and how we plan to test it, is described at https://molgod.org/engraved-molecular-models/ . Let the group sketch what they see in Dtdm, namely two 6-membered rings; afterwards they compare the sketch with the 31 bonds on the model (all of them single). Students work from the model back to the formula C8H16N2O2S2: the symbol count is 8 C + 16 H + 2 N + 2 O + 2 S, or 30 atoms all told. Spot-the-group challenge: can students find the two ether linkages (C-O-C)? Worth printing alongside it: Dimorpholinomethane (CAS 5625-90-1) and 1,4-dioxane (CAS 123-91-1), structurally the nearest in the collection. Hydrogen bonding count (computed): 0 donors, 6 acceptors. MolGod.org shares these models for free to make chemistry tangible in the classroom. Teachers: pair it with the MolGod.org record to connect the 3D shape with identifiers and data. Print it, hand it round and build a lesson around it. When you publish a photo, a worksheet or a remix, CC BY-SA 4.0 requires you to credit "MolGod.org" as the author of the model, link to the original and to the licence, indicate any changes and share remixes under the same licence (the ready attribution line is below). There is no registration, no payment and no obligation to rate it. Teachers and students, we read every comment. Tell us in a review how the model worked for you and what we could do better for education; for longer feedback write to https://molgod.org/contact/ . Feel free to discuss the model here, compare notes with other educators, or contact us; every conversation helps us build better teaching models. All we need is a CAS number: from it MolGod generates the 3D structure, engraves every atom and prepares the STL.
