Model Overview & Print Notes
Summary HeatSync - The Ultimate Heat Insert Press The upgraded version of HeatSync is finally here! I create these models in my free time, so if you'd like to support my work, consider following Thinkable on Patreon and subscribing on YouTube . Thank you for all your support! Let's build a better future together! About HeatSync Around 2022, when I started 3D printing, I discovered threaded heat-set inserts and how useful they were for joining printed parts with screws. I bought a cheap soldering iron, press, and tips from Amazon, thinking it would make installing inserts simple. Unfortunately, the press was wobbly, uncomfortable, and frustrating to use, especially when installing hundreds of inserts. I wanted something better: a sturdy, ergonomic press with adjustable height and interchangeable platforms (jigs) for different printed parts. After experimenting with drill press mechanisms and custom adapters, I began designing my own system. HeatSync is the culmination of years of development to create my ideal heat insert press. Now you can make one too! I've also included the STEP files so makers can customize and improve the design for their own needs. I believe 3D printing is a superpower, and sharing designs helps us all create better things. Happy printing! Features Custom interchangeable jig system Adjustable height Smooth pull-down lever mechanism Built-in cable guide Integrated carrying handle Support for multiple soldering irons Simple assembly with PDF instructions STEP files included for customization Mostly 3D printed construction Strong aluminum extrusion frame Customization and Remixes Community modifications and remixes are encouraged! The STEP files are included so you can adapt HeatSync to your own hardware, needs, and projects. If you publish a remix, please credit Thinkable, link to the original project, and follow the model's Creative Commons license. Have an idea for a new feature? Leave a comment! I'd love to see what the community creates. Planned Features As of October 11, 2026 Extendable Gridfinity-compatible base storage system Additional community-requested features Update Log October 11, 2026 Added PDF assembly guide Reinforced spring hook mounts on the rack gear and main housing April 2, 2026 Added interchangeable jig base models Added flat base option without jigs February 27, 2026 Original HeatSync release Follow the project for future updates! Printing Guide Printer Requirements HeatSync can be printed on most consumer 3D printers, including the Bambu Lab A1 Mini. Recommended Filament PETG (Recommended) Recommended for the soldering iron holder components Better heat resistance for parts exposed to warmth during extended operation Great for functional mechanical parts PLA Tested and works well for most components Suitable for general structural parts Hardware Requirements HeatSync uses mostly 3D printed components, with a 300 mm 2020 aluminum extrusion serving as the main structural backbone. The extrusion provides strength and makes it easy to adjust the press height. Recommended: HeatSync Hardware Kit The easiest way to build HeatSync is with the hardware kit available from my shop. Buy the HeatSync Hardware Kit The kit provides the necessary assembly hardware without requiring you to purchase large quantities of individual components. Note: You will need to supply your own compatible soldering iron and flat heat insert tips. Individual Hardware List If you prefer to source the hardware yourself, here is the list of components required: 17x M4 x 10 mm machine screws 17x M4 x 6 x 6 mm brass heat-set inserts 1x Extension spring, 6.4 x 38 x 0.9 mm (1/4" x 1.5" x 0.035"), with hook ends 7x M4 extrusion nuts 1x 300 mm 2020 aluminum extrusion bar 1x Compatible soldering iron 1x Set of compatible flat heat insert tips 1-4x M4 x 10 mm thumb screws (optional) Amazon Hardware Link (Affiliate) As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
