Model Overview & Print Notes
Project Summary This model has been designed with manual/per-layer filament swaps in mind, for printers without an MMU or AMS. Can be printed on any printer MK4S-sized [250 x 210 X-Y] or larger . Print out and dry-fit all parts before gluing. Super glue is required for assembly. Check out the Build Guide and Assembly Short Video for the best possible experience! ;) Background This project has been in the works for a few months now, and I am quite proud of the result! I've been wanting to experiment and tackle other vessel types, and thought that the National Security Cutter/Legend-Class - one of my favorite coast guard ships - would make a great subject. Commissioned between 2008 and 2024, the NSC's are some of the most modern cutters in the USCG's fleet. At 418 feet long and around 4,600 tons, they are also some of the largest. Details This model has been designed for multi-color printing without an MMU in mind. Just load each part into the slicer, and set various filament swaps - be it manual or automatic - per layer . All test models shown in the photos have been printed without supports. But the model has a few fine details - particularly the mast piece [which I am very proud of]. Well tuned profiles and some testing will go a long way, but the part can be printed cleanly. There are nameplate options for all 10 NSC's currently in-service. As with all my models - no generative AI was used in the creative process. Thanks & Support Neither I nor this project are in any way affiliated with the U.S. Coast Guard. But it is a subject matter/field that I find interesting! If you like the work that I do, I now have a Buy Me A Coffee page, as well, where you could support my creative projects just like this one. Link to my page HERE! If you decide to build this project, I'd love to see your makes and read your feedback on it! And as always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or feedback that you may have. - GP3D
