Model Overview & Print Notes
What is it? This is a terrain system I have been working on for a while. The idea is that you build you own terrain using the included pieces. It might look intimidating and complex at first, but I recommend printing the "Test models"-zip and to read the "Test models"-section at the bottom as a start, this way you should get all the pieces you need to understand. A disclaimer: The pieces in the pictures might differ from the ones in the pack as I'm working on some expansions to the system. Features: Portability One of the main issues I have with wargaming is the terrain, I got a bit bored of improvised terrain made of either cardboard or household items, but I didn't feel like bringing a duffle bag full of complete terrain-pieces. This terrain system is made to be assembled and disassembled on the spot, making it ideal to bring to a friend or to reduce space when stored at home. Modularity Do you need more smaller terrain pieces? Maybe a large showpiece in the middle to fight over? I made the terrain system to be stackable and adjustable after your needs. Ease of use It's easy to access the models inside the ruin just by lifting the floors above. This way you don't have to fiddle with your models from the side and accidentally move any terrain or models. Expandability I am planning on releasing even more pieces in the future. Both additional pieces for the "gothic"-theme in this "pack", but also more floor variations for different building geometries as well as other architectural themes. How does the system work and what do I need? The base pieces in the system can be categorized into either "walls" or "floors" . Walls The walls can be split into "lower level" or "upper level" "lower level" : Pieces that are meant to be stacked. These pieces are not broken and has pins on the top for securing the floor above. "upper level" : these are cosmectic pieces with broken tops to give a more natural look to the top floor of the ruin Both the "lower level" and "upper level" walls has "end segments" , these segments are meant to cap the ends of the wall to give the sides of the ruin a more natural look. The wall pieces can be combined in various different ways by pushing a ~75mm long piece of 1.75mm filament through the hinge. I recommend making wall segments with 2x "middle segment" and 1x end pieces as these are more versitile, but you can also make full wall segments with end pieces on both sides. Examlpe: One piece with 2x middle segments can be combined two of the segments above (2x middle+ 1x end segment) to form an 8-panel bottom wall. Floors I have included 2 different "floor profiles" the "Corner floor" (square shaped) and the "Cut corner floor" (slightly L-shaped). Both profiles has 3 tiers: a top floor for 4 panels a middle floor for 6 panels a ground floor for 8 panels You use the floors by adding pre-assembled wall segments in the "grooves" You can then stack the floors as high as you want (up to 3 floors in this pack) Print settings I printed all my segments with a 0.3mm layer height using marble PLA from AddNorth. I wouldn't recomment using a brim on the wall pieces as it can be hard to remove completely and make the fit with the floor a bit too hard. No floors needs support, but all walls do. If you change material in the middle of the print on two layers, you can make the gaps in the floor "pop", that's how I get the distinct "grid"-pattern on all floors. Test models I have attached a folder with a selection of pieces to print just to get a hang of how the system works. Print one of each model and you should be able to make a small 3x3 panel house with 2 floors as seen below or in the "reference assembly" I want your feedback! It is tested by me and my friends, but we are a fairly small sample group and I'm fairly new to wargaming so I do need your feedback. Is there anything you like or dislike about the system? Does it work in game? Is the durability of the models ok? Is there anything obvious missing in the pack etc. Hope you like the project and don't hesitate to contact me and I'll answer any questions if anything is unclear! /Fredrik Hamrebjörk
