Model Overview & Print Notes

Classroom-Ready Magnetic Skull Remix – Optimized for Reliable Printing This is a remix of the magnetic human skull model by [ Full Size Anatomically-Correct 18-Piece Magnetic Human Skull Model - DaveMakesStuff ], which is also a remix of: “BodyParts3D, © The Database Center for Life Science licensed under CC Attribution-Share Alike 2.1 Japan”, tuned and explicitly reorganized for easy, repeatable classroom builds.   I created this version to print and assemble a skull to donate to a local high school that needed an anatomically accurate, hands-on model for their biology and anatomy classes. Along the way, I focused on making the print workflow as smooth and “push-button” as possible. I have since produced a few more, which I have donated to middle and high schools for educational purposes. This is a great learning model. What’s different in this remix? Multi-plate, printer-friendly layout The bones are pre-arranged across multiple build plates in solid, support-sane orientations. You don’t have to guess which way to rotate each part – just slice and print each plate in order. Refined magnet settings for cleaner assembly I adjusted several magnet anchor depths and tolerances to improve magnet seating consistency and reduce cleanup. The goal is a tighter, more satisfying snap-fit between bones with less trial-and-error. Reduced “gotchas” in orientation Wherever possible, the outer visible surfaces are oriented up so supports stay hidden on the inside. I also tried to avoid pointing magnet pockets straight down, reducing ugly support scars around those critical anchor points. Classroom durability in mind This remix was tested with the idea that students will take it apart and reassemble it over and over. The changes to magnet fit and orientation are all aimed at making the model sturdy, less fiddly, and easier to maintain. Printing & assembly notes The original design uses the following imperial magnets: 66 × 1/8" × 1/16" cylindrical magnets Approx. metric size: ≈ 3.2 mm diameter × 1.6 mm thick Closest common metric options: 3 × 1.5 mm or 3 × 2 mm neodymium discs 38 × 1/4" × 1/8" cylindrical magnets Approx. metric size: ≈ 6.4 mm diameter × 3.2 mm thick Closest common metric options: 6 × 3 mm or 6 × 4 mm neodymium discs I recommend doing a quick dry-fit as you go to confirm magnet polarity and seating depth. A drop of CA glue in any loose pockets keeps the skull classroom-proof. Credits: This is a remix of [Full Size Anatomically-Correct 18-Piece Magnetic Human Skull Model - DaveMakesStuff ] . Huge thanks to DaveMakesStuff and the original creator for the incredible anatomical work – my changes are focused on print workflow, magnet usability, and classroom practicality.   Video to assist with putting the model together. https://youtu.be/dm0RT-1eFFc?si=PGr-4rqPvttQpmOH This is DaveMakesStuff's instructions. I couldn't make a better video than he did, and he deserves all of the credit for the instructions. My remix doesn't exactly fit all of the instructions perfectly (some pieces have minor orientation changes) , but this video will walk you through the complete assembly.
